NX62 Design by Pininfarina: Interior Engineering by PAD PROJECT

NX62 Design by Pininfarina brings the design language of one of Italy’s most recognisable design houses on board. The result of a collaboration between Brazilian boatbuilder NX Boats and Pininfarina, the yacht offers comfort through spacious interiors, visual continuity and a carefully considered relationship between furnishings and interior architecture.

PAD PROJECT undertook the detailed 3D design and production engineering of the interior furnishings, as well as the preparation of installation drawings. This work took the interior design through to the definition of individual components and the technical information needed to manufacture them.

Pininfarina’s design language on board

With a length overall of 18.72 metres, the NX62 aims to offer a sense of space inspired by larger yachts. In this approach, furnishings help shape the experience on board: they organise functional areas, guide movement through the interiors and define the character of each space.

With a long heritage in automotive design and a practice that also spans architecture and yachting, Pininfarina brings a language of considered proportions, continuous surfaces and rounded profiles to the interiors. Expansive glazing opens the saloon to the surrounding views, with seating upholstered in light tones, softly contoured tables and furnishings integrated into the overall arrangement.

In the full-beam owner’s suite, the bed, storage units and seating are carefully positioned in relation to the side windows. Light-toned upholstery is paired with wood surfaces and darker accents, while ceilings and panelling carry the design language throughout the space. The same attention to detail shapes both the overall interior and each individual piece of furniture.

From interior spaces to the detailed 3D model

The detailed design covered furnishings for the saloon, galley and helm area on the main deck, as well as the cabins, bathrooms and passageways on the lower deck. The configuration comprises the owner’s cabin, a VIP cabin and two guest cabins.

The work also included partitions, hull-side and ceiling linings, and the cabin sole, or interior floor. These elements complete the spaces and require coordination with the furniture, openings and spatial constraints on board.

Based on the architectural and technical information supplied by the yard, the 3D model incorporated the available structural and systems components, allowing the team to check for clashes and assess the feasibility of the furniture designs. Component thicknesses, materials, grain direction and hardware were specified in the detailed design to define how each element would be constructed.

Production engineering: from the model to individual components

The production engineering phase developed the design down to the level of individual components. The work included specifying joints, drilling patterns, edging and machining operations, along with assigning component codes and defining materials and finishes.

Numbered exploded views, assembly drawings and material and hardware schedules translate the model into information the joinery workshop can use. Installation drawings show the positioning of the furnishings within each space through plans, elevations, sections and dimensional references.

Engineering links the design language with the requirements of production and onboard installation. For a project designed by Pininfarina, this stage aims to preserve the design’s identity in the finished furnishings, respecting proportions, alignments and continuity between surfaces.

The PAD PROJECT team

Project Manager Alessandro Mariotti coordinated the work, with Alessandro Pio Maccarone working alongside him during the design phase.

PM Aurora Rossi oversaw the production engineering phase alongside Massimiliano Tarantino and Gianluca Stefanelli. Maria Padula worked on the development of the installation drawings.

For the NX62, PAD PROJECT connected the vision for the interiors with the requirements of manufacture, defining the furnishings in technical detail and giving their makers the information needed to build them. This work brought together design expertise and knowledge of production processes to support the quality of the overall yacht design.
